Meet Dr. James B. Fox

James B. Fox, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato (esketamine) at Summerville Behavioral Health. With over a decade of experience in brain stimulation therapies, Dr. Fox brings a depth of clinical and research expertise that few providers in the region can match.
Dr. Fox earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also completed his psychiatry residency and served as Chief Resident. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Physics from Harvey Mudd College, graduating with Distinction — a scientific foundation that informs his precision-driven approach to neuromodulation. Before medical school, Dr. Fox served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force at the Air Force Research Lab in Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts.
As an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at MUSC, Dr. Fox treated patients with TMS and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) while contributing to published research on brain stimulation, working memory, treatment-resistant depression, and novel anti-depressant therapies. He is a co-author on numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals including Brain Stimulation, the Journal of ECT, and Evidence-Based Mental Health.
Dr. Fox offers FDA-cleared TMS as a non-invasive, medication-free treatment for depression, as well as Spravato (esketamine) and VNS (vagal nerve stimulation) management. His practice is committed to staying at the forefront of psychiatric care and delivering measurable results for every patient.
